Sorry for the lack of posts, its been a crazy last few months on expedition in the Indian Himalaya and then directly back into full on editing mode on this wild Denali expedition edit. Annapurna Circuit Trek
This classic trek circles the entire Annapurna massif and in so doing offers a spectacular variety of people and landscapes, from lowland farming country to alpine meadows to the Tibet-like country on the northern slopes of the Himalaya.
We start in the foothills at Besi Sahar and rise after 6 days to the settlement of Manang at 3550 mt where we acclimatize and enjoy the mountain views from Manage. We continue to ascend and on day 12 of the trek we cross the famous Thorung La pass at 5416m, to Muktinath, an important pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists religions .
From here we descend into the Kali Gandaki River, with Annapurna and Dhaulagiri towering on either side. End route back to Pokhara we pass through the many beautiful hill villages that populate this ancient trading route between Tibet and India. We also visit the hot springs at Tatopani, and climb up Poon Hill 3210 m, above Ghorapani, to enjoy magnificent mountain views. Accommodation and food is provided in the local lodges. Annapurna Sanctuary Trek
ReplyDeleteThe trek into the area below the massive south face of Annapurna - known as the Annapurna Sanctuary - is one of the most popular treks in Nepal. The trek begins in Pokhara and leads up through the breathtaking Modi Khola gorge into the vast mountain ringed amphitheatre of the Sanctuary.
As we trek through bamboo and rhododendron forests we have superb views of the Annapurna range. We eventually pass between the mountains of Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli which guard the entrance to the Sanctuary, and after 6 days reach our goal, the high glacial basin that is the site of the Annapurna south face base camp. This is a classic trek, which allows access to the high mountains of the Himalaya within a reasonable timeframe and with a maximum altitude of 4000m. Accommodation and food is provided in the local lodges. Transport to Pokhara is by private coach. This trek ends in Pokhara.

North of Nepal's famous Lake city Pokhara (210 Km west of Kathmandu) lies the Poon Hill Ghorepani trek 3,10m.The Poon hill Ghorepani trek is an immensely popular short trek to the Annapurna regions, The breathtaking mountain scenery of whole Annapurna range and the beautiful ethnic Poon villages justify the popularity of Ghorepani Poon hill trekking and is the bestseller among all our short trekking tours in Himalayan. Relatively easy trek includes walking along streams and forests for those who are looking for a few days close to mountain with real nature, yet it is not far away and involves no high climbing. You absolutely have no risk of altitude sickness on this trek. Ghorepani trekking can be done all through the year although in monsoon ( july - Aug) it is not recommended but 20% people visit this time as well and some time also chance see the mountains views
A Ghorepani poon hill trek starts from Naya-paul 900m Crossing the suspension bridge over Modhi Khola rive r, after an hour of drive from Pokhara by bus or car depend on the group. We ascend through ethnic villages and farm terraces enjoying the views of Machhapuchare Towering above. On the second day we walk mostly through woods before we reach Ghorepani Village base camp of the Poon hill .Next morning we make an early climb of one hour to the nearby Poon hill for the spectacular view of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna , Nilgiri, Fishtail and other famous mountains of the west region.
The whole of Ghorepani is densely forested with rhododendron trees, the national flower of Nepal. Every spring it is tremendous scenery to watch these forests in bloom with the panorama of the high mountains on the skyline
From Ghorepani we descend for the beautiful Gurung (name of a tribe) village of Ghandruk on the lap of the Annapurna’s. The village is known for its traditional houses, rich culture and the great landscape. Walking down through the innumerable steps we make a loop at Birethanti and 1000m catch our vehicle for Pokhara at Naya-pul.We trek back no part of the trail on this itinerary. On our whole trek, we use the mountain lodges called the tea houses for our food and accommodation.

There are a number of options for short treks in the foothills to the north of Pokhara. Most of these variations will visit Ghandruk and Ghorepani. Poonhill is the best viewpoint for panoramic view of Annapurna Himalayan range, can be reached easily from Ghorepani. Ghandruk is a large traditional Gurung village while Ghorepani is the settlement below the famed vantage point of Poonhill. The itinerary suits for those who want to see and feel within short period of time, a beautiful panoramic mountain view from the elevation of 3210m along with some traditional villages and their culture.

Ghorepani we descend for the beautiful Gurung (name of a tribe) village of Ghandruk on the lap of the Annapurna’s. The village is known for its traditional houses, rich culture and the great landscape. Walking down through the innumerable steps we make a loop at Birethanti and 1000m catch our vehicle for Pokhara at Naya-pul.We trek back no part of the trail on this itinerary. On our whole trek, we use the mountain lodges called the tea houses for our food and accommodation.
